Bio
I was born in Durban, South Africa, and spent the first 16 years of my life there. After a brief stint in Johannesburg, I finally moved to Cape Town, where I studied a Bachelor of Business Science (Information Systems).
After university, I settled in Cape Town and began a career in the Digital Advertising/New Media industry with OgilvyInteractive Cape Town. I have worked as a Developer, Lead Developer, and eventually Technical Director, and gained invaluable experience in all aspects of the job: creative, technical, managerial and client-facing.
2007 was an exciting year, as my girlfriend and I decided to make the move to London. Hardly “the road less travelled” for a pair of 20-something white South Africans, but nevertheless it was a new challenge for both of us career-wise, an opportunity to meet up with good friends from university, and do some travelling.
In mid-2009 I left the advertising world after 5 years with Ogilvy and joined Skype as a Product Manager, which was an incredible opportunity. I got to work on Call Quality features for Skype 5.0 and worked with some incredibly talented people. When Skype underwent a re-structure prior to the Microsoft buy-out, I took the opportunity to go out on my own and start my own development consultancy, Anvil Technology.
Outside the office, I am a keen guitarist. I try to catch as many live music events as I can, and enjoy a lazy afternoon braai (barbeque), Jameson’s on the rocks, and no-limits Texas Hold’em.
